Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway

Wilmore, Kansas

A normal day in Kansas features winds that would warrant emergency weather warnings back east. Along the scenic byway though, someone from back east would likely ask, "what hills?"

An information booth at a turnout from the two lane byway informs visitors that these "red hills" get their color from iron oxide in the soil, and will support "mixed grass prairie and sandsage prairie."
